Marion Roberts born 1935, returned to Britain after a childhood in India to study painting at Mansfield and Leicester Schools of Art (ATD 1956) as well as Calligraphy with Lesley Grant. Until 1976 she was Head of Art Departments, first at Gainsborough and later in Newark. Her characteristically wide watercolours, painted out of doors, are in private collections throughout the world and have been exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy. She has continued to develop her calligraphy within the Celtic tradition. Her work is popular in the USA and has been commissioned by both private collectors and civic or official bodies. With her husband David they established the Gallery soon after coming to live in Orbost in 1977.
